Jason P. Garcia, MD


Dr. Jason Garcia, a native of Garfield, NJ, received his Bachelors of Science from Cook College, Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He then received his medical degree from UMDNJ- New Jersey Medical School where he continued to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency.

After residency, Dr. Garcia completed the San Diego Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy Fellowship Program at the University of California, San Diego. During his fellowship, Dr. Garcia was an assistant team physician and participated in the care of the San Diego Padres baseball team and the San Diego State University Aztecs football team. He also provided care for the University of California, San Diego and Grossmont College athletic programs.

Throughout his training and career, Dr. Garcia has maintained an active interest in clinical and basic science research. His current interests involve investigating biological approaches and cutting-edge surgical techniques to augment tendon healing after rotator cuff repair and in chronic tendinopathies. His research on the mechanics of shoulder injuries in throwing athletes has been published and he has presented his work at national meetings of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Dr. Garcia is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Garcia treats a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, including a concentration in sports-related injuries in athletes of all ages and activity levels. Special interests include arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder, ligament reconstruction of the elbow, rotator cuff disease, cartilage repair, treatment of chronic tendinopathies, and shoulder replacement.
